Back Pain and Chiropractic Care
Often call a slipped disc or blamed on muscle strains back pain should not be ignored. Back pain is a warning sign from your body suggesting that some part of your spine may not be moving or functioning well. Often we see that the pain reduces given enough time, but after 23 years in practice , seldom do I see the function return to normal by itself. In fact, over time we see that the change in function results in repeated episodes of pain, loss of muscle function, poorer reactions to load and over time, stress and spinal degeneration.
“Back Problems are like Musicians….they take Twenty Years to become an ‘Overnight Success’.”
The western world is not a spine friendly environment. Too much sitting, computers, abnormal stresses and unnatural lifestyles all contribute to poor spinal function.
Locating and correcting the underlying problem not only frees you from pain but improves the performance of your nervous system and decreases the release of stress hormones in your brain. Remember when there is stress on the nerves in your back they are also the nerves that supply muscle, joints, organs and blood vessels. So a back problem is often as much a health problem.
How does chiropractic care help back pain?
There are many studies that provide evidence for the effectiveness of chiropractic care in addressing lower back pain issues. You can look these studies up online. Even published health guidelines recommend chiropractic as a good form of therapy for patient treatment plans in the care of lower back pain.1,2,3
Chiropractic is probably best known for dealing with back and spinal issues. Frequently we are seen as the last resort by people frustrated with a medical approach. The reason Chiropractic is associated with back and spinal issues is because of 120 years of successfully dealing with them and the side effects of spinal nerve stress. The interesting thing is that when spinal issues are corrected, we often see all sorts of other health conditions improve.
